WIPpet Wednesday – May 18

If you’re unfamiliar with WIPpet Wednesday, it’s a great weekly meme hosted by Emily Witt where authors can share excerpts from Works in Progress. I have greatly enjoyed reading others’ WIPs and getting to know other authors’ stories.

Today, I have a section from my 2nd Manuscript.

Math: 5/18. 5 paragraphs for the month.

Context: This is from Joel’s POV

“If he sees you, he’ll be furious,” she warned him. He glanced over at her, the meekness of her tone causing his heart to squeeze. At least her bruises were healing and her face had almost returned to its normal beautiful shade of bronze.

“I know,” he replied without hesitation. She breathed a breath of determination and climbed out. “Do you want help?”

She shook her head. “I can do it.”

“What if he’s home?”

“His truck would be here,” she said. “He’s not home,”

Still, a sliver of panic slid up and down his body as she strolled up to the front door. He smiled at her confident swagger, even if it appeared forced. He voiced a prayer for strength and peace and then sat back and waited.

I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing excerpts and I’m honored by the excitement that those reading share in Serena’s journey. Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to read.

I’m on the fence about when and how to publish, but I think I’ve come to a sort of conclusion. I’d like to send queries out this summer, and if nothing happens with that, then early 2017 I think I’ll begin the process of self-publishing. I want to wait because I want to finish at least the first two books so that I can release them somewhat close together. (3 t0 6 months apart)

Until next week! Happy writing!

  1. She’s going back to her abuser. That’s sad. Seems like she’s at a crossroad and needs to pull away entirely.
Good luck with your query and with finding an agent.

  2. Ooo… I’ve missed stuff, I think. Sniffles for all those bruises. 😦 I hope the not-Joel he really isn’t home. Otherwise, I don’t see her walking into that house ending well.
